An Invitation to Discover Jesus Christ

Meet Jesus
For more than two thousand years, people around the world have encountered this question. But knowing Jesus is about more than knowing facts about His life. The Bible presents Jesus Christ as the Son of God, the Savior, and the One who calls us to follow Him.
Jesus came into the world with a message of truth, grace, repentance, forgiveness, and hope. He taught people about God and His Kingdom. He showed compassion to the hurting, welcomed those who were searching, confronted sin, forgave, served, healed, and called people to a new way of life.
Ultimately, Jesus willingly gave His life on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead.
Whether you have followed Jesus for years, know very little about Him, or are simply searching for answers, you are invited to discover who He is.
Start with Jesus.
Who Is Jesus?
Jesus Christ stands at the center of everything we share at Holy Relief.
The Bible reveals Jesus Christ as the Son of God, the Savior, and the One who calls us to follow Him.
When the angel Gabriel announced His birth to Mary, he said that Jesus would be called the Son of the Most High.
Luke 1:32
Jesus entered human history. He was born, grew, experienced hunger and weariness, felt compassion and sorrow, and lived among ordinary people.
Yet Scripture also reveals something extraordinary about Him.
The Gospel of John tells us that the Word was with God, the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and lived among us.
John 1:1, 14
Jesus was truly human, yet He was more than an ordinary teacher or religious leader. Scripture reveals Him as the eternal Son of God who came into the world.
Jesus came to make the Father known. His words, works, character, and mission reveal the heart and purposes of God.
John 1:18; John 14:9
If you want to understand who Jesus is, one of the best places to begin is by reading His life and words in the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
There you can encounter Jesus as Scripture presents Him.
Why Did Jesus Come?
Jesus came for people who are lost and separated from God.
He said that the Son of Man came “to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:10
The Bible teaches that sin is a universal human problem. We have all fallen short of God’s glory.
Romans 3:23
Sin separates us from God. We cannot rescue ourselves from sin simply by trying to become better people.
But God did not abandon us.
Jesus came to reveal the Father, proclaim the Kingdom of God, call sinners to repentance, and bring salvation.
John 3:16 tells us that God loved the world and gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.
Jesus came because God loves.
He came for sinners.
He came for those who are lost.
He came to save.
What Did Jesus Teach?
Jesus did not simply give people information about God.
He called people to follow Him.
His teachings show us what it means to live in relationship with God and under His rule.
Jesus taught us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Matthew 22:37–39; Mark 12:29–31
He taught us to forgive others and warned against holding tightly to bitterness and unforgiveness.
Matthew 6:14–15; Matthew 18:21–35
Jesus taught His followers to pray sincerely, seeking God rather than trying to impress other people.
Matthew 6:5–13
He taught humility. Instead of seeking greatness through status and recognition, Jesus showed that true greatness is found in serving.
Mark 10:42–45
Jesus called people to repent—to turn away from sin and turn toward God.
Mark 1:14–15; Luke 5:32
He taught the importance of faith, calling people to trust God even when circumstances are difficult.
Mark 11:22; John 14:1
Jesus taught that hearing His words should lead to obedience. Following Him is not merely agreeing with what He said. His followers are called to put His teachings into practice.
Matthew 7:24–27; John 14:15
He taught His followers to serve others, and He demonstrated this through His own life.
John 13:12–17
Jesus continually taught about the Kingdom of God. He called people to seek God’s Kingdom, live according to God’s will, and recognize God’s rule over their lives.
Matthew 6:33; Mark 1:15
At the heart of His teaching is an invitation:
Come to Him. Learn from Him. Trust Him. Follow Him.
The Cross and Resurrection
The cross stands at the heart of the Gospel.
Jesus lived in obedience to the Father and was without sin.
Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 2:22
Yet Jesus willingly gave His life for sinners.
He was crucified and died on the cross.
Scripture teaches that Christ died for our sins.
1 Corinthians 15:3
Jesus described His own mission as giving His life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45
At the cross, we see both the seriousness of sin and the depth of God’s love.
But Jesus’ death was not the end.
Jesus rose from the dead.
On the third day, the tomb was empty. Jesus appeared alive to His followers, and His resurrection became central to the message they carried into the world.
Matthew 28:1–10; Luke 24:1–12; John 20:1–29
The apostle Paul summarized the Gospel by declaring that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:3–4
The resurrection matters because Jesus is alive.
Death did not defeat Him.
The grave did not hold Him.
Through Jesus Christ there is forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and the hope of eternal life.
Our hope is not simply in the memory of someone who lived long ago.
Our hope is in the risen Jesus Christ.
How Can I Follow Jesus?
Jesus calls people to follow Him.
Following Jesus begins with responding to the Gospel.
Jesus called people to repent and believe the Good News.
Mark 1:15
Repentance means turning away from sin and turning toward God. It involves recognizing that we have sinned, seeking God’s mercy, and beginning a new direction with Him.
Faith means placing our trust in Jesus Christ.
We do not earn salvation by becoming perfect or by doing enough good things.
Salvation is God’s gift of grace, received through faith.
Ephesians 2:8–9
Following Jesus means trusting Him as Savior and learning to live under His leadership.
It means listening to His words.
Learning from Him.
Obeying His teachings.
Growing in prayer.
Reading Scripture.
Loving God.
Loving others.
Turning away from sin.
Serving others.
And continuing to follow Jesus even when the journey is difficult.
Following Him does not mean you will understand everything immediately.
The first disciples had questions. They made mistakes. They had moments of fear and doubt. Yet Jesus continued teaching them and calling them to trust Him.
You can begin by coming to Jesus honestly.
Seek Him.
Read His words.
Talk to God in prayer.
Place your trust in Christ.
And take the next step in following Him.
Jesus Is the Way
Jesus made an extraordinary statement about Himself:
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
Jesus did not simply say that He could show people a way to God.
He said, “I am the way.”
He is the way because reconciliation with God comes through Him.
He is the truth because He reveals God faithfully and His words are true.
He is the life because eternal life is found in Him.
This is why Jesus remains at the center of the Gospel.
Our hope is not ultimately found in a website, an organization, a teacher, or our own ability to become good enough.
Our hope is found in Jesus Christ.
He invites us to come to Him, believe in Him, and follow Him.
Start Here
If you want to know Jesus, start with Jesus Himself.
Open the Bible and begin reading one of the four Gospels:
Matthew — Follow the life and teachings of Jesus and learn about the Kingdom of God.
Mark — Encounter a direct and active account of Jesus’ ministry, His authority, His suffering, death, and resurrection.
Luke — See Jesus’ compassion for people and His mission to seek and save the lost.
John — Explore deeply who Jesus is and what it means to believe in Him and receive life through Him.
You do not need to understand everything before you begin.
Read slowly.
Pay attention to what Jesus says.
Notice how He treats people.
Consider what He teaches about God, sin, forgiveness, faith, love, salvation, and eternal life.
Ask yourself:
Who does Jesus say He is?
What does Jesus teach?
What does Jesus call people to do?
What would it mean for me to follow Him?
You can also pray.
Prayer does not need to be complicated. Speak honestly to God. Ask Him to help you understand His Word, recognize the truth, turn away from sin, and know Jesus.
Keep seeking.
Keep learning from His words.
And when Jesus calls you to follow Him, respond with faith.
Jesus Christ is the hope.
Jesus Christ is the Savior.
Jesus Christ is the way.
Jesus Christ is the One we are called to follow.
Know Jesus.
Learn from His Word.
Follow Him.
